Paris Plage - the Paris beach
A beach in Paris? It seems like a bizarre idea, but each year during July and August two miles of the bank of the Seine are turned into a beach. White sand, palm trees and parasols are lined along the Seine close to the Hotel de Ville in Paris. The Paris beach, or Paris Plage, was first introduced in 2002, and although it was branded as crazy by the Socialist mayor Bertrand Delanoe, it is now a successful annual event.
Parisions and visitors take to the beach not only to sunbathe, but to take part in the free beach activities on offer, including beach volleyball and boules.
